Agustín Cruz elected president of the UAE
Last November 14th, Agustín Cruz, partner at UHY Fay & Co, was elected president of the European Union of Lawyers at the Annual General Meeting that was celebrated in Malta.
The European Lawyers’ Union (UAE) brings together the practicing lawyers within the European Union, with a view to achieving common action for: promoting the professional practice of law within the European Union, as well as the education and continuous training of lawyers; Advancing the right of establishment and the freedom to provide services of lawyers in the European Union; Promoting the practice of EU law and of the law derived from the European Convention for the Protection on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms; Promoting the harmonization of the legal statute and the professional and ethical rules governing the practice of law in EU Member States; and Allowing European practitioners to develop contacts both between themselves and with the EU institutions.
Cruz comments: ” I am very excited and confortable with this responsibility because I have been proactively involved with the UAE for many years, organizing many of the conferences and congresses in different european cities. Furthermore, I believe that the European Union of Lawyers is necessary to promote the practice of law within the European Union and the figuere of the lawyer at an European level.”
The Spanish Supreme Court ruled that the IGT provisions under which non-EU taxpayers are charged with higher inheritance tax than EU or Spanish residents are contrary to EU Law.
